High power red laser pointers: a strong red dot

Red is the classic laser colour and still the preference of many users who want a red dot that stands out clearly against green fields, hedges and woodland. Our high power red laser pointers share the robust construction of the Pro series: 50–500 mW output, laser class 3B, a rechargeable lithium-ion cell and a charger in the box.

Be aware that the eye is less sensitive to red than to green. A red Pro laser therefore reaches less far than a green one of the same output: indicatively approx. 200 m in daylight, approx. 1 km at dusk and approx. 2 km in the dark. If maximum range is your priority, look at the green Pro lasers. If you prefer red, choose the full-size ARP-1 Pro with 18650 cell and safety keys, or the compact ARP-2 Pro Mini with a 16340 cell, no safety keys and a one-press on/off button.

When red makes sense

  • You want a red dot rather than green, for contrast or personal preference.
  • You want a red laser alongside a green one for signalling with two colours.
  • You already own a green model and want to complete your set; the Pro set contains green, red and violet.

For star pointing and long-range bird control we still recommend green. See our range comparison by colour for the reasons, or compare models on the compare page.

Safety: class 3B lasers can injure the eye instantly, also via reflections. Never aim at people, animals, vehicles or aircraft, wear suitable laser safety goggles and keep the laser away from children. As the buyer you are responsible for complying with UK law. Read our laser safety guide before first use.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a red laser reach less far than a green one?
Because the eye is less sensitive to red light. At equal output a red dot looks dimmer, so it is visible over a shorter distance.
What wavelength do the red ACE Pro lasers have?
650 nm, for both the ARP-1 Pro and the ARP-2 Pro Mini. Choose laser safety goggles rated for 650 nm.
