AR-1: strong red laser pen on AAA batteries

The ACE Lasers AR-1 is our pen-style red laser: 5–50 mW, laser class 3B, powered by two AAA batteries that come in the box. It gives a clear red dot that is easy to follow against green surroundings, and needs no charger or special cells. For users who want a red laser pen that simply works, this is the one.

What the AR-1 is good at

Red is the classic laser colour. The AR-1 is useful for pointing out features in the landscape at dusk, marking a spot for someone else, and simple outdoor signalling. Bear in mind that the eye is less sensitive to red than to green: a red dot of the same output looks dimmer and is visible over a shorter distance. For star pointing or bird control we recommend the AG-1 green laser pen, which has the same format and battery type.

Batteries

Two AAA batteries are all the AR-1 needs. Replace them with any standard AAA batteries and remove them if the laser will be stored for a longer period. If you want a red laser with more reach and a rechargeable cell, choose the ARP-1 Pro (50–500 mW).

Part of a set

The AR-1 is also included in the pen-style set AG-1 + AR-1 + AV-1, which gives you green, red and violet lasers with the same AAA power source.

Safe use

This is a class 3B laser: direct exposure and reflections from glass, water or metal can injure the eye instantly. Never aim it at people, at the eyes of animals, at vehicles or at aircraft, and never into the sky near flight paths. Wear laser safety goggles rated for the wavelength, keep the laser away from children and store it securely. Sold to adults 18+ and businesses only; as the buyer you are responsible for complying with UK law. Read our laser safety guide.
