AVP-2 Pro Mini: compact violet laser at 405 nm

The ACE Lasers AVP-2 Pro Mini brings the violet Pro output, 50–500 mW at 405 nm (laser class 3B), into a 12 × 2 × 2 cm body. It is meant for users who want a violet laser for demonstrations of fluorescence or as part of a multi-colour kit, and prefer a compact format that fits in any pocket.

Violet in practice

Violet light at 405 nm makes highlighter ink, many plastics and glow-in-the-dark materials light up visibly. That effect is the main reason to choose violet. For long-range visibility it is not the best colour: indicatively the dot reaches approx. 50 m in daylight, approx. 300 m at dusk and approx. 1 km in the dark, well short of a green laser. For long-range outdoor work choose green, such as the AGP-2 Pro Mini in the same size.

Battery and charging

The 16340 cell is what keeps this laser so short. Keep a charged PowerFox 16340 2-pack at hand if you use it for longer periods; the PowerFox charger charges 16340 and 18650 batteries, one at a time. Store spare cells in a case, never loose in a pocket.

Treat violet with respect

A violet dot looks weak, but the output is the same range as our other Pro lasers. Wear goggles rated for 405 nm (goggles for green do not automatically protect against violet) and never judge the hazard by the apparent brightness. More in our laser safety glasses guide.

Safe use

This is a class 3B laser: direct exposure and reflections from glass, water or metal can injure the eye instantly. Never aim it at people, at the eyes of animals, at vehicles or at aircraft, and never into the sky near flight paths. Wear laser safety goggles rated for the wavelength, keep the laser away from children and store it securely. Sold to adults 18+ and businesses only; as the buyer you are responsible for complying with UK law. Read our laser safety guide.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference from the AVP-1 Pro?
Same colour and output range. The AVP-2 Pro Mini is shorter and runs on a 16340 cell; the AVP-1 Pro uses an 18650 cell, has safety keys and a momentary button (hold to fire). The Mini has no safety keys and switches with a one-press on/off button.
Which spare battery fits?
A 16340 lithium-ion cell, such as the PowerFox 16340 battery (1800 mAh).
Is the AVP-2 Pro Mini suitable for star pointing?
It works, but a green laser is far more visible against the night sky. For astronomy we recommend green.
